What is Cordi?
Cordi is an Android app that helps protect older adults in Argentina from phone scams. Right before a risky step (sending money to a new account, sharing a WhatsApp verification code, giving a stranger remote control, or entering a fake bank page) it shows the person a full-screen question, «¿Estás por…?» (“Are you about to…?”), with three buttons: leave, call a family member with one tap, or continue. Everything is analyzed on the phone, and the person always decides.

How it differs from other apps
| Type of app | What it does | What Cordi does differently |
|---|---|---|
| Caller ID and call blockers | Flag or block numbers known as spam. | Watches what happens during and after the call: if the person opens the bank or starts a transfer while talking to an unknown number, it asks. Works even when the number is new. |
| Antivirus | Look for malicious software. | Targets the con itself: most of these scams use no malware, they use the person. |
| Parental control or monitoring | Show someone else what happens on the phone. | Shows the family nothing. The question is for the older adult, who decides. |
| Bank account monitoring | Alert the family after an unusual transaction. | Asks before the risky step, in the moment, and calls the family with one tap. |
Limits
- It isn't infallible and doesn't replace staying in touch.
- Some banking apps hide their screen: Cordi then asks when the bank is opened during a suspicious call, but can't read the amount.
- It doesn't block calls and doesn't cover landlines.
